‘Vikings’ Season 4 Part 2: Episode 13 Recap, “Two Journeys”

Here’s what went down in Episode 13 (entitled “Two Journeys”) of Season 4 of History’s Vikings.

England

Ragnar and Ivar lying on a beach. Phew! Ivar opens his eyes. Fuck, is Ragnar okay? Phew! He’s okay, but he looks dead for a while there. Pretty sure he is wishing he was dead. Ragnar gets up, he can’t see any of their boats. A shout. There are some people, Vikings dragging themselves around the coastline.

It doesn’t take long at all for Aethelwulf (Moe Dunford) to discover Ragnar has arrived in England. And, in true TV conspiracy theory fashion, announces that if there isn’t any body then Ragnar must still be alive.

He is smart though because Ragnar and Ivar do have a plan, and it is a simple one: kill their fellow Vikings and wander into England as an old man and a cripple. King Ecbert (Linus Roache) is fucked if they manage to pull this off. This plan leads to the arrest of Ragnar at the end of Episode 13, however, I think this is just how he wants it and I can’t wait until he and King Ecbert finally get a chance to chat.

Paris

While Ragnar’s pathetic little band of bribed Vikings are getting their throats slit, Ragnar’s other son, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) is getting arrested by his uncle, Duke Rollo (Clive Standen). It is touch and go through most of this episode as to whether Rollo will be the usual betraying cunt he normally is or whether he will allow Bjorn safe passage. I think if Paris were an awesomely interesting place filled with the sorts of bawdiness seen in Kattegat and other Viking regions, then Rollo probably would have just killed them all. However, he sees Bjorn’s visit as an opportunity to be just a little bit Viking again and ignores his wife pleas to stay home with her. Bjorn responds by allowing Rollo along for the ride, but drowns him first. Well, partially. So, Rollo is now officially a member of the House Greyjoy.

Kattegat and Hedeby

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) finally decides she has had enough of Aslaug sitting upon her throne in Kattegat and devises a plan to kill that bitch in Episode 13 of Vikings. She is happy to take out Aslaug’s sons too but, as Astrid (Josefin Asplund) points out, they are Ragnar’s sons also. She has a point, but it also has me wondering if Astrid is actually Team Aslaug and will double cross Lagertha at some point in Season 4 of Vikings. I hope not, but still I wonder…

But, then Torvi (Georgia Hirst) is bringing in Margrethe (Ida Marie Nielsen) into the fold and suddenly I am excited to have her on board, what with all the sons she has slept with and all the knowledge she holds about them.

Aslaug, however, might be onto Lagertha, thanks to a vision she has in Episode 13 of Vikings. If this is the case, then Lagertha will have a much more even fight on her hands than she anticipated.

By the end of Episode 13 of Vikings, Lagertha is actually attacking Kattegat but viewers will have to wait until Episode 14 to find out why Aslaug is carrying out that huge sword.
