Welcome to my recap of Showcase’s The Kettering Incident. Here’s what went down in Episode 7 (entitled “Madness”).

Kettering has been quarantined thanks to the stinky oysters turning up in Episode 6 of The Kettering Incident. The authorities move and guess where the main water catchment area is? That’s right, up at Mother Sullivan’s Ridge. So much shit going on up there. Which means Max Holloway (Damien Garvey) and Craig Grayson (Ben Oxenbould) are freaking out knowing pretty soon their little “secret” buried up at the ridge is going to be found out. In between shitting his pants about the authorities finding the toxic waste he buried at the Ridge, Max is telling his employees the mill is closing, saving his wife from overdosing and discovering a moss-covered Travis that he and Craig have to dispose of.

Anna (Elizabeth Debicki) is being interviewed thanks to her fingerprint being found on the railing at the old Sullivan house. Along with her fingerprint, a partial is also found. But surely that partial is not important considering it belongs to a scientist who died in the 80’s. Anna has sex with Dutch (Matthew Le Nevez) and finds that partial print is totally important as it belongs to a scientist from Antarctica who is presumed dead. He also happens to belong to the same expedition that Dominic (Neil Pigot) keeps talking about. Anna is convinced this scientist, David Owen, is not dead but here in Kettering and goes on a mission to prove this. When she speaks to Dominic, he says there’s no way Owen could have survived and shows her manky pics of what happened to the rest of Owen’s group. Eventually, Anna decides that Jens is really David Owen and I totally agree with her.

Anna is also trying to get in contact with Dr. McKenzie (Kris McQuade). While the audience knows she had a car accident in Episode 6 of The Kettering Incident, everyone else in Kettering has no idea. While searching for the doctor, Anna checks out Dr. Mac’s lab and also her own blood — which is of the not quite right variety.

Fergus (Henry Nixon) and Dutch are finally checking up on Travis (Kevin MacIsaac) but it’s not because they give a shit about him, but because he doesn’t have an alibi for the night Chloe (Sianoa Smit-McPhee) was killed. It turns out Travis left his car and wallet behind. But only Dutch knows about the wallet, leading Fergus to believe Travis left in a great hurry. Kind of like he was guilty of something…

Fergus, while getting some excellent police work done, is actually have a pretty shitty day in this episode of The Kettering Incident. Not only is he at loggerheads with Dutch over his belief the cop really is a drug dealer, regardless of what the assistant commissioner says, but it turns out his girlfriend, Sandra (Katie Robertson), may or may not have had sex with Macca (Marcus Hensley). What Fergus doesn’t know is that Sandra is also pinching shit from the authorities checking out the stinky oysters and handing it over to Jens (Damon Gameau).

Speaking of Jens, he and Roy have a little conversation in the forest. Basically, Jens knew about the toxic waste and struck a deal with Roy, Max and Craig in regards to it. Roy is getting pretty close to dobbing Jens in — even it that means getting himself caught in the line of fire as well.

Eliza (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) and Dane (Dylan Young) are planning to head to the mainland, mainly because Dane is certain Dutch is going to kill him just like he suspects he killed Chloe. But Dane still won’t testify against him. The pair have little money but Eliza admits she knows where Chloe might have kept a stash of cash. And that stash turns out to be at the old Sullivan house. Of course it is. And it is here they find a huge bunker underneath the old house. Eliza decides to check it out.

Last week’s episode of The Kettering Incident saw Roy (Anthony Phelan) under scrutiny. This week, it appears Roy is trying to redeem himself by finally giving a shit about his daughter. Except, he’s not really, and has her committed by the end of Episode 7. But at least it seems Dr. McKenzie is okay after her bingle.

Weird Shit That Might Be Important Later

  • Fergus finally fesses up to the fact Anna is not the same person he used to know.
  • Dutch obsessing over the night vision googles. And was that a slight blackout he was hiding when Anna turned up through the open door?
  • Jens is still getting high.
  • This weird thing found up in the toxic sludge:

  • Adam (Brad Kannegiesser), has released himself from hospital and seems to be fighting fit. So long as you avoid his creepiness and mood swings. Oh, and the lichen growing on his shoulder..
  • Lofty was totally telling the truth about it being a seal in the back of his ute. Not at all the result I was expecting.
  • Dutch and Fergus get to witness the strangeness of Kettering firsthand when their car refuses to start until a loud noise has passed overhead.
  • The owl hanging about while the power plays up.
  • Fergus finding all those yellow balls and the plane wreck up at the Candlesticks. Is no one besides me wishing The Kettering Incident focused more on this storyline?
