“Sense8” For the Summer

As you may have noticed we–Rachel and I–at The Snarking Dead are sort of slowing down right now:  she for the winter and me for the summer.  But I’m the sort of woman who can’t sit still for long–even when I’m watching TV I’m usually jittering about–and told Rachel of an idea I had for another show to recap . . .

Now that I have a new computer and I know how to stream video from it to my television, I’m going to spend a few weeks this summer jumping into the Netflix Original Programming catalog and bring recaps for Season 1 of Sense8.  This will be a new program for me, as I have only recently unlocked the secrets of streaming, and this is a program I’ve wanted to see for a long time.

Sense8 is written and produced by The Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, and tells the story of 8 people from all around the world who find themselves psychically linked together as “sensates”.  Part of the idea behind the series was to bring to the screen subjects that weren’t traditionally shown and/or discussed on science fiction programming, such as as politics, identity, sexuality, AIDS, gender, and religion, though are often commonly found in science fiction literature.  Season 1 was released on 5 June, 2015, and with Season 2 production underway–and the release expected to occur at either the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017–I felt it might be a good time to put out recaps on Season 1 in case anyone may have considered watching the program and continuing into the new season.

As this is one of those shows that’s easy to “binge”, I’ll bring two recaps a week, with the first two appearing here on Tuesday, 5 July, 2016, and the second on Friday, 8 July, 2016.  The recaps will run for six weeks, with the last two recaps coming the week of 8 August–which also happens to be the birthday of all eight of the sensates.

I hope you’ll enjoy his offering, and as always, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below!

See you in a couple of weeks.
