The Walking Dead Season 3 Recap – Episode 7: When the Dead Come Knocking

The Cabin in the Woods in AMC's The Walking Dead

When the Dead Come Knocking

In episode 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead; When the Dead Come Knocking, we get the sense that a trap is being laid, plans are being put in place and that the shit is just about to hit the fan – it must be the lead up to the mid-season finale then!

Michonne (Danai Gurira) in AMC's The Walking Dead

Michonne (Danai Gurira) makes it all the way to the prison, stinking of zombie gutsand the walkers only notice her when she’s at the fence?! Go figure, but, as a result, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl-really-you-named-your-sister-Judith?! (Chandler Riggs) save the day. (And is it just me, or Carl starting to get psycho-creepy? How long will it be before he has a meltdown?)   After much push and shove Michohh-my-god-is-that-the-only-expression-you-own manages to say loads about Merle (Michael Rooker) and plenty about the Governor (David Morrissey) and Woodbury, without giving much away (like names – isn’t it just gonna go pear-shaped when theRicktatorship meets their old crew?) Needless to say, after the mention of Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) – they all decide to take the Governor down!

Carol's (Melissa McBride) back in AMC's The Walking Dead

So Carol (Melissa McBride) is back. Daryl (Norman Reedus) seems happy, and so does Carol, albeit gutted at the loss of Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). When Rick and the gang gun up and leave for Woodbury, there was ample time for AMC to insert theromance we so desperately want to see between this pair…shame they missed their chance and Daryl has gone off to war without a parting peck yet again…

Well, the Governor has his hands full with Glenn and Maggie and a madly naive scientist called Milton (Dallas Roberts) who thinks that the human consciousness lives on after death and zombification. [Mental Note to Milton: listen to Andrea (Laurie Holden) – or anyone who’s been on the outside, for that matter…]

Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Merle (Michael Rooker) in AMC's The Walking Dead

While the Governor is being all ‘look at me, I’m awesome’, Merle (Michael Rooker) is being a nasty prick and dealing with his abandonment issues by beating up on Glennfor not revealing where the Ricktatorship crew is hiding out. Just when you think you can’t hate this guy any more, Merle goes and brings in a zombie on a chain for Glennto play with. Luckily Glenn has a bigger set of balls than Merle and can whip thatzombie-bomb in under a minute (and who thought duct tape would find yet another use?!)

Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in AMC's The Walking Dead

It’s not so lucky for Maggie though, who turns out to be the weakest link. TheGovernor uses this to his advantage and gets her to strip. The rape scene – that all thecomic fans thought was coming – doesn’t eventuate. I’m surprised AMC will get a child to shoot his mother in the head and yet won’t include that scene. They must have something else worse up their sleeve to make the Governor appear truly evil. Even without this scene, Maggie still caves and tells on the team. I must say though, when theGov dropped his gun belt, the only thing I could think of was: ‘Do it Maggie, knee him in the nuts and take his gun!’ Once again AMC, you missed an opportunity…

I’d like to point out also, that the last scene was completely awesome, even if nothing really happened. The set up of the heartbeat/music and the shots of all the characterswho are about to clash was completely fantastic. Makes me want next Sunday night even more!

Finally, the Governor is questioning Merle about his loyalty – will he pick blood orbetrayal?

Which do you think he will choose?
